LAYER, PROTECT, TRANSFORM.
What is Powder Coating?
Powder Coating is the latest technology used for the protection of materials and buildings. Its strong properties are essential for shielding all your assets against rust, scratches, and general deterioration.
Made from polyester or epoxy powder then heated in a curing oven to form a long-lasting protective layer, its tough yet flexible skin makes it far less likely to chip or peel than your standard wet paint. Powder Coating also has weathering resisting properties making it the perfect solution for both indoor and outdoor materials.
The Powder Coating Process
Stage One: Pre-Treatment
An adequate pre-treatment process is necessary to ensure the durability of the coating. An inadequate pre-treatment process (such as only spraying the product with acid once then rinsing) will result in the coating flaking and chipping in no time.
Aluminium
- We carry out a 4 stage pre-treatment process
- Our dip tanks are 7m long x 1.2m wide x 2m deep
- We have a full fly over system, keeping materials clear from obstruction & enabling fast, efficient turnaround times
Tank One:
Metall Etch 291L – The purpose of the etching process is to remove the thin oxide layer on the surface before the conversion coating is applied. Simultaneous removal of light oil and grease deposits along with etching of aluminium.
Produces a white, bright finish on aluminium, and has an excellent rinseability ensuring streak-free surfaces.
Tank Two:
Water Rinse – to remove acid from the aluminium
Tank Three:
Oxsilan Rinse AL 0510 – Oxsilan AL 0510 is a chrome free multi-metal solution for the pretreatment of aluminium. Unlike traditional gold chromate (which a lot of powder coaters are still using), Oxsilan AL 0510 is non-carcinogenic and non-toxic whilst giving the same corrosion protection as hexavalent chrome. Oxsilan AL 0510 has compliance with highest quality requirements, GSB, Qualicoat and AAMA.
Tank Four:
Reverse Osmosis (final rinse) Critical stage in the pre-treatment process. Contaminants interfere with the bonding of the paint to the surface. Reverse Osmosis technology to ensure a chemical free rinse with the highest purity water for each stage of the pre-treatment process.
Stage Two: Powder Application
Stage Three: Curing
This stage involves placing the product in our gas oven and baking at 200 degrees for around 10 minutes.
Stage Four: Packaging
Once the powder coating process is complete the finished product is packaged to your requirements.
